Catholic prayer cards, also known as holy cards, are pocket-size, plastic-protected devotional prayers with beautiful images of Saints and other religious persons. Catholic prayer cards have been a part of Catholic Church history for centuries with the earliest surviving holy card portraying St. Christopher dating back to 1423. Early Catholic prayer cards were created of woodcuts surrounded by paper lace. Catholics everywhere still exchange holy cards for indulgences, memorial cards at funerals to commemorate loved ones, reflection and as general reminders of faith.
